I spent the last five days at The Muse and The Marketplace which is normally held in Boston each year. Due to COVID the conference was held online. I have a day job so I took Wed- Friday off work and spent five whole days doing nothing but learning about writing and marketing and working on my newest novel when I had breaks. I am new to writing retreats/conferences and this was my very first. All I can say is I will most definitely going back next year. There were literary agents, editors, writing teachers, and some of the best authors teaching a wide variety of courses. Benjamin Percy, author ofDC Comics’ Green Arrow was there and so was Lois Lowry who wrote Number the Stars and The Giver. You probably read her books as a child. She really touched my heart when she was speaking and brought me to tears about a small win she had in becoming an author.
The most exciting part about this conference was that I spent three days with nothing on my mind but writing (and maybe a little wine). I feel so rejuvenated. I needed to reset my creativity and I did. In the mail a couple days before the muse I got a package with envelopes inside. They were labeled to open one each day of the muse. The gifts and treats were the perfect addition to the most perfect weekend! I got so far into my next novel that I worked on in between classes.
If you are a writer or want to become an author, fiction or non-fiction, I highly recommend going to the muse or some other writing conference. I can’t wait to attend it in person, hopefully next year. 🙂
