Living in Minnesota isn’t always easy. There are weeks of bitter cold, below zero temperatures, frozen pipes, and snow. Sometimes are winters go on into May. Way up north we usually get our last snowstorm at the end of April, and most of us are so over winter at this point. A couple of days ago the temperature got down to -36F, but today the temperature is finally above zero. It is a celebration for us. This means we can go for walks again without our skin instantly freezing, and sledding and skiing is finally an option again!
As summer nears, and let me tell you Minnesota summers are so beautiful. We begin dreaming about the lake life and shorts right about now. Many Minnesotans are planning vacations closer to the equator because they just want to be warm again. I have written about the summer and the winters in Minnesota because I love where I live. I love the blue sky and the multitude of lakes and fresh water. I write about the city of Side Lake because it is so beautiful and a part of who I am. The chain of lakes and the friendly people that live there. I love the whole atmosphere.
I got my edits back this week and although I work a full time job in addition to being an author, I always make time to write and read a good book. I am currently reading Katherine Center’s book, What You Wish For. If you haven’t read any of her books yet, you should. This is only the second book I’ve read of hers, and I already bought another one. She is my new favorite author and it is a great escape from this cold winter.
Every day the sun is setting later and the days are getting longer. I feel like Spring will soon be here and I can’t wait to lay out on the beach, covered in sunscreen, reading a new book or working on my next plot. Today I am grateful for winter because I will not take advantage of how lucky we are to have a hot summer, even if it is horribly humid! I am proud to be from Northern Minnesota. Where are you from?
